METICULOUSLY RESTORED EARLY DUTCH HOUSE… SOLD
Built in 1729 for Johannes van Driessen, the first minister of the Dutch Reformed Church of Kinderhook, the parsonage is one of the oldest and most architecturally important structures in Columbia County An impressive brick facade has a historically accurate restored stoop that leads to a classic split Dutch front door into the oldest section of the house. The formal entry hall has original massive, exposed beam, exceptional staircase from the 1836 renovation, and two stately rooms on either side of the hallway. To the left is the formal parlor and to the right an elegant dining room, both with working fireplaces, wide board floors and 10-foot ceilings. The kitchen, just off the dining room, has ample workspace, a pantry and opens into the large mudroom containing the laundry and back entrance from the driveway. A cozy room at the end of the front hallway has an original brick back wall from 1729 and retains a working fireplace with an early cooking hearth from 1786. The early beams and large fireplace make it a perfect spot to relax on a cold winter evening. It is adjacent to a wonderfully renovated bookcase lined library and convenient to the first-floor guest bedroom and full bath. The intricate staircase leads upstairs to a light-filled office, five more bedrooms, two full baths, and a back staircase that creates many options for sleeping or workspaces. There are a total of five fireplaces in the house, four of them working. This meticulous house renovation includes plaster restoration, new roof in the back of the house, full exterior painting, upgraded electric, and a Buderus boiler. On over half an acre, there is a fully fenced yard with space for gardens and a pool. The structurally restored early 19th century barn has two parking spaces with additional room and a loft for studio, workshop or creative use. In the heart of the walkable, vibrant, historic Kinderhook Village, and just steps from the library, farmers market, coffee shops, restaurants, bank, post office, the School Gallery, the Empire Trail, and Samascott Orchard and Garden Market. Only 20 minutes to Hudson, Amtrak and the Hudson River; 30 minutes to Albany, and 2 1/2 hours from NYC.
